Embracing the Power of ‘The 12-Steps’

Anyone who is familiar with traditional substance abuse treatment has heard about the Big Book. The Big Book was originally published in 1939 by founders Bill W. and Dr. Bob and serves as the basic text for Alcoholic Anonymous ( AA).

At The River, we acknowledge the power of the 12-Steps and incorporate them as the foundation that guides our treatment practices.

However, we take it to the next level by giving you the tools you need to translate those tenants into real-life situations in the modern world and incorporate them into your daily life.

12-Steps Practice

When you enroll in either the 4-week or 12-week program at The River you will get an intensive education and understanding of each of the 12 Steps out outlined in the Big Book.

You will be guided by our team of qualified professional staff; many of whom are recovering addicts and alcoholic themselves, on how to incorporate the principles into your life.

AA/NA/CA meetings are a core element of the treatment process, and you will be introduced to the 12 steps with our support while having access to local resources and community networks.

You will also be given the opportunity to take part in structured groups to unravel the source of your addiction and reconcile the impact it has on your life as well as the effects it has had on your colleagues, friends, and families.

What Is
12 Steps
Treatment

The 12-Step process prepares you to have a ‘spiritual awakening’ or a ‘psychological change’. These changes refer to the transformation in thinking, attitude, and outlook on life that occur during and after rigorously working through each of the steps. We believe that this conversion allows you to free yourself from the compulsion and obsession to use or drink, and therefore prepares you for a life free from addiction.
